During this professional development training you will learn an innovative approach to education that will transform your teaching and the way your students learn, experience and create music.

1 2 LET’S ALL PLAY! THE RHYTHM, MUSIC, MOVEMENT AND STORY CONNECTION
Mary shares innovative strategies for using language as a vital foundation for developing rhythmic, music and movement skills.  Rhythmic games, chants and songs from world cultures and drumming are included as well as ways to engage students in creating dances, stories and songs of their own!

MELODIC DRUM CIRCLES
Incorporating brain based drumming activities designed to develop important mind-body connections, Mary teaches sequential activities to build skills in world music, rhythm, creativity and drumming while addressing educational standards through experiential learning.

TEACHING WORLD MUSIC EXPERIENTIALLY THROUGH IMPROVISATION World music improvisation helps students gain an understanding and appreciation for ethnic traditions while developing their own expressive music vocabulary. Mary shares innovative strategies and activities featuring scales, rhythms and styles from Africa, Asia, Indonesia and India as a pathway toward discovering one’s own unique music. Mary highlights sequential teaching strategies in a fun, experiential and engaging way.

WHO IS THIS COURSE SUITABLE FOR?
The course will suit teachers and student teachers from a range of teaching settings – studio or classroom – at preschool, primary, secondary and tertiary level. Also music therapists, caregivers, parents, community workers, health and performing arts practitioners.

ABOUT MARY:

Mary E Knysh is the founder of Rhythmic Connections, (www.rhythmicconnections.com) an innovative company advancing education, health, and creative development through drum circles and music improvisation. Mary is a cutting edge  workshop facilitator, trainer and consultant who uses music as a means for personal and organisational transformation through creativity, leadership and non-verbal communications. She is a professional  musician; recording artist and international author. An international teacher/trainer with the Music for People organisation, Mary is also an Orff Schulwerk clinician and teaching artist for the Pennsylvania Council of the Arts, Young Audiences of NJ, and New York BOCES. She is endorsed by Remo Inc and Rhythm Band Instruments. Mary travels throughout the United States, Europe and Asia offering drum circle facilitator trainings, performances, and workshops.

Mary’s teaching philosophy encapsulates Orff’s well-known quote: “Tell me, I forget.  Show me, I remember. Involve me, I understand.” As a long time teaching artist, performer, Orff Schulwerk conference clinician, Remo Inc and Rhythm Band Instruments endorsee and international educational author, Knysh is deeply committed to the positive effects of the brain based experiential learning process. These innovative teaching  strategies encourage students to have a sense of “ownership” in the music making process so they understand music from “the inside out”. With this 21st Century Brain Based approach to education Mary’s primary goal is to educate students experientially by drawing out (educing) the genius that lives within them.
