Presenters: Sarah Brookes & Heather McLaughlin
Two afternoons will be offered by VOSA to play pieces from the original repertoire from the 'Music or Children' volumes by Carl Orff and Gunild Keetman - known affectionately as 'the Brown Books' (even though more recent editions are cream or yellow). These contain a wealth of material but initially can look rather daunting.
The pieces presented are suitable for working with children aged 9-14, but participants are very welcome who just want to have a good play on the marimbas and other instruments in the company of adults!
Sarah Brooke and Heather McLaughlin, both very experienced music teachers who share a passion for this 'classic Orff' instrumental material, will offer two Saturday afternoon sessions. Although it is ideal to attend both, it is possible to come to either one of these.
Saturday May 2nd, 2-4 pm - Uniting Church hall, Edwin St., Heidelberg Heights
Volumes I-III: This session will present assorted pentatonic and other pieces and include the popular "Hiya Allegro" (with body percussion, instrumental percussion, and a bit of shouting!) and end with the iconic piece "Streetsong".
Saturday May 16th, 2-4 p.m. Uniting Church hall, Edwin St., Heidelberg Heights
Volumes IV-V: This session will offer harmonic pieces and include the popular "Dance 31", as well as "Malaguena" (both with sopranino recorder parts).
Cost: $25 (VOSA members) $40 (non-members) for each afternoon.
Afternoon tea included.
Bring copies of the books if you have them. Some pieces will have parts for recorders.
Pay at the door on the day.
